Living on God’s Time: Using Each Day for His Glory

Time, Our Most Precious Gift
Time is truly one of the most precious gifts God gives us. Unlike money, status, or possessions, we can’t earn more of it. Each moment is a gift—a unique opportunity to walk in His will, serve others, and glorify His name. Yet, in a fast-paced, noisy world, it's easy to lose track of how we spend our time. We often find ourselves getting caught up in the hustle and bustle, forgetting that every second is a chance to connect with God and the people around us.
Corrie ten Boom a Holocaust survivor, Christian writer and public speaker is credited with saying "if the Devil can't make you sin, he'll make you busy." Wow, that was a jarring wake up call for me when I read that because I am so guilty of getting swept up in the busyness of life and distracted from making sure I am not losing focus of the most important thing.
So how do we use our time in alignment with God’s will?
Seek God First
Jesus said in Matthew 6:33, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” This scripture helps us understand where to focus our efforts. When we begin our day seeking God, everything else falls into its rightful place. This isn’t just about fitting time with God into our busy schedules; it should shape our entire day. Start your morning with prayer, reading His word, and listening for His voice. Allow these practices to inform how you spend the rest of your time.
Intentional Living and Serving Others
Another significant aspect of using our time wisely is to live intentionally. Think about how you can serve others throughout your day. Whether it's through small acts of kindness or more significant commitments, every moment spent serving is a moment spent glorifying God. Consider volunteering, helping a neighbor, or simply making time for a friend in need. These actions not only bless others but deepen your relationship with God, as He calls us to "love and serve one another" in Galatians 5:13
Creating a Balanced Schedule
Finding balance in our schedules can feel overwhelming, but it’s essential for aligning our time with God's will. Begin by evaluating how you currently spend your time. Are there activities that take up too much of your day and don’t serve a greater purpose? Focus your time on what truly matters. Incorporate time for prayer, family, and community into your routine. This balanced approach will not only help you manage your time better but also ensure that your life reflects your commitment to God’s path. God has equipped each of us with unique gifts, passions, and opportunities. Using your time to live out your calling—whether in ministry, the workplace, at home, or in your community—is a form of worship.
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” —Ephesians 2:10
This balanced schedule should include time for rest as God ordained rest. Rest is holy. It’s not laziness—it’s obedience. God Himself rested. In our nonstop culture, rest is countercultural and powerful. Sabbath allows us to reset, reflect, and remind ourselves that God is in control—not our calendars.
“Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.” —Exodus 20:8
Redeem the Time
Time stewardship doesn’t mean busyness. It means intentionality. Every day is a chance to reflect God's love, share His truth, and live with purpose. We’re not promised tomorrow—so let’s be faithful today.
God isn’t asking us to be perfect with our time—He’s asking us to be present with it. When we surrender our minutes, hours, and days to Him, our lives become testimonies of grace in motion.
"So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom." Psalm 90:12
