From Broken to Beauty
From Supervolcano to Sanctuary: How God Transforms Destruction into Beauty
Recently, I had the chance to visit Yellowstone National Park—a place of breathtaking beauty, wild wonder, and peaceful stillness. But beneath its bubbling springs and towering geysers lies the remnant of a Supervolcano, one of the most powerful forces of destruction in Earth’s history. As I stood looking out over Yellowstone’s surreal landscape, a truth stirred in my heart: God can take what was once dangerous and devastating… and transform it into something beautiful, awe-inspiring, and life-giving.
I thought isn’t what He does with us, too?
What Was Once Broken Can Become Beautiful
We all carry destructive places inside us —wounds, mistakes, fears, and losses. But God doesn’t waste any of it. He reshapes, restores, and renews us. He is creating a new creation and taking all of those old things within us and making them new.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”
II Corinthians 5:17
Just as Yellowstone is now a place of wonder, formed through fire and upheaval, God transforms our pain into purpose and our scars into stories of grace.
Nature Declares His Power and Redemption
Creation itself reflects the heart of a God who takes ashes and brings forth beauty. Everywhere you look in nature, you can see the work of a creator that has an artist's eye and a meticulous amount of detail. The way the ecosystem brings forth life and how life renews speaks to the working of a master plan.
'For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, '
Romans 1:20
Yellowstone is a living sermon, reminding us that even the most shattered places can become sacred ground. What was once desolate now is teeming with all sorts of wildlife, so much that people flock by the thousands daily for a glimpse.
“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”
Romans 8:28
God's Plan is Perfect
Let Yellowstone be a reminder: Your most broken places can become the most beautiful testimonies of God’s redeeming love.
'You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; You have put off my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness,'
Psalms 30:11
No matter what your past holds, or what you’re walking through now, God is not done with your story.
'He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end.'
Ecclesiastes 3:11
