Understanding the Enemy's Lies

In our everyday lives, we often encounter various forms of deception—from subtle lies to blatant untruths. The spiritual realm is no different. The enemy is constantly trying to seep doubt into our hearts and minds, making us question our faith. It’s crucial that we gear up for battle by understanding these lies. Remember, the enemy’s goal is to lead us away from the truth and create confusion.

When the Enemy Whispers Lies—Answer With Truth

The enemy’s strategy hasn’t changed. He lies, accuses, and tries to plant doubt. But every lie has already been defeated by God’s Word. When these thoughts surface, we don’t argue with them—we answer them with Scripture. We see this model for defeating the enemy when Jesus is in the wilderness, everything Satan said to Him, He responded back with "it is written".

In Ephesians 6: 10-18 the scripture outlines our defense against the enemy which is taking up the whole armor of God. "The sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God" is the only weapon in these instructions and our best defense. So when the enemy attacks with his lies, fight back with the sword of the Sprit. Here are some common lies I find have infiltrated my mind:

Lie: “You are not enough.”

Truth:

“My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.”
—2 Corinthians 12:9

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
—Philippians 4:13

Our sufficiency has never been about us—it has always been about Christ. We are unworthy but made worthy through Him.

Lie: “God won’t come through.”

Truth:

“And my God will supply every need of yours according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”
—Philippians 4:19

“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.”
—Hebrews 10:23

God’s timing may not look like ours, but His faithfulness has never failed. Remind yourself of all the times He has delivered on a promise and wait patiently on Him.

Lie: “Your past disqualifies you.”

Truth:

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”
—2 Corinthians 5:17

“As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.”
—Psalm 103:12

Our past does not disqualify us—often, God uses it to magnify His grace. All our experiences can be used to help others, there is nothing God can't use to the good of those who serve Him.

Lie: “You’re alone in this.”

Truth:

“Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”
—Hebrews 13:5

“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.”
—Psalm 34:18

Even when we feel alone, God is closer than we realize. His name "Emmanuel" means God with us". What a beautiful promise.

Speak It Out Loud

Jesus didn’t silently think Scripture—He spoke it. There is power in declaring truth aloud when lies try to take root.

When the enemy whispers, may our hearts be so full of God’s Word that truth rises up without hesitation. The lies may come—but they will never have the final word.

Because it is written.

I pray this new year finds you ready to do battle using God's word as your fiercest weapon. Much love to you all.
